The Creation of the Black Wand

Stories are a big part of any culture, especially the legends and myths. The Black Wand was once a myth. Stories spoke of a time after the Great Flood when the most powerful magic folk (witches, wizards and all their counterparts throughout the world) could not perform anything but the simplest spells properly.

Magic was strong then, much stronger than it is now, and harder to manipulate and control. For this purpose, wands were created, and it was assumed that as on moved up to higher magicks, one would trade one wand for a more powerful one. Each of the most powerful wands were carefully crafted to suit the exact nature of their owner and their purpose.

Back then, there was no Good. There was no Evil. Not even Neutrality. Death and Destruction were held in the same regard as Creation and Life. And so, the creation of what we now call the Black Wand, was not considered a horrible thing.

Once upon a time should probably be involved in this story, as it didn't all happen at the same time. These are the threads. Different stories and people coming together to create something cohesive and tangible.

When Hogwarts had just begun, a force appeared in the wizarding world. The nature of this force is unknown; in every writing of that time, it is known simply as the Dark. Existing wizarding schools were destroyed almost overnight, magical folk were presented to Muggles as Evil Beings, high ranking folk of both the Muggle and the magical communities went missing... or worse.

Manticore and other 'evil' magical creatures began to appear with regular frequency in both worlds while creatures such as unicorns and dragons began to drop rapidly towards extinction.

The chosen location for Hogwarts was well hidden, and the four founders believed themselves safe. But the violence soon spread closer to Hogwarts. Each had, before the idea of Hogwarts came about, trained young witches and wizards on their own. Now Gryffindor and Ravenclaw gathered together the most promising among their former students into a small army against the threat of the Dark. Slytherin joined with his own shortly afterwards, though it is rumoured he spent most of the time before than considering joining the Dark.

Hufflepuff, not one to jump into a conflict, continued to work on the creation of Hogwarts and joined with her faction only after it became obvious that there was no other course. The exact strategy for the recovery of the Black Wand is unknown. Only the founders themselves went in search of it, and they leave no records of the event. It is known that the Black Wand came into the possession of the four founders and that it was only after a long debate that they decided to destroy it. The Black Wand's power, however, would not let it be destroyed so easily. The only recourse was to break it, and keep the pieces separate.
