Slytherin Servant Finally, thought the thief, it's midnight. Surely everyone is asleep. The thief crept down the stairs form his dormitory. Yes, they are all gone.This makes my job a lot easier.

The thief was very eager to please his master. So much so he risked anything to do it. He looked around to see if anything was unusual. But this was Hogwarts, everything was unusual. Instead he noticed a sleeping portrait in the common room. Well, thought the thief, the best witnesses are no witnesses. He took out his wand and did a charm that made a blade appear at the tip of the wand. Simple. He approached the portrait slowly. The darkness of the common room would hide him if the portrait woke up, but he was better safe than sorry. His master would not like mistakes. Mistakes meant punishment. He didn't want punishment.

He slashed the portrait enough so that everything was in shreds, even the actual painting. The painting wouldn't be saying anything to anyone ever again. His final slash in the painting cut through the frame revealing a compartment. There was a noise. This was enough. He would be awarded for creating fear among the students, though his orders were to find something else. He, however, could not risk getting cought. Keep them in a constant fear. Yes, until he could find what he was searching for, fear was the best he could do. And the brutal slashing was just enough to do that.

Rowane Whist Rowane turned in bed, yawning as she stretched out her arms. 'It must be midnight.' She thought groggily, yet she could have sworn she had heard something from downstairs. She pulled the covers up again, but heard another sound, very soft. The sound of quiet ripping of fabric or paper. What could it be? Curiosity getting the better of her, and slipped out silently to the door.

"Oops," She muttered, tripping on something, hopefully she hadn't made too much noise. She pulled her night-robe closer and crept out the door. Sliding down the steps silently, she moved close to the fireplace and pulled out her wand. "Lumos." She whispered under her breath, and searched for what she had heard.

She cast the beam of light around the room, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. What was that!? It looked like a figure moving away, strangely to a dormitory, but it must have been just a shadow. Heaving a sigh of relief, she cast her light to the wall, and screamed. "AHHHHHH!" The wail escaping from her mouth before she could stop it or muffle it.

A painting her been slashed to shreds. What had it known, what had it seen? Rowane trembled with fear, remembering that shadow she had seen. She looked back to her won dormitory, surely someone had heard and would be coming down? She certainly didn't know what to make of this painting!

Anna Seconds after the scream, Anna came tripping down the stairs in her dressing gown. "What the..." she began, then saw the ex-painting by the light from the wand. "Oh my god..." she breathed. She crossed the room to look closer at the painting. "What happened?"

~~~
Rowane Whist Rowane's shoulders trembled with unreleased fear and tears. "I... I... I don't really know. It was like this when I came down stairs. I thought I heard a noise and... and I saw a shadow." Rowane cut off, what was it she ahd seen? "I think it was just a shadow, nothing more." Rowane finished off, with more comfidence than she felt. She didn't want to believe that that shadow that went to the dormitory was anything more than a shadow. Because if it was, it meant that the danger was right here in Hogwarts.
~~~

Anna Anna looked around. "What can we do? How do we explain this to the teachers?"

~~~
Rowane Whist Rowane pulled herself together. She hadn't really thought about the teachers, she didn't want to tell them! But she knew that would be stupid. She looked at the portrait, and looked around the room. "Whoever did this wasn't after anything, for now. He hasn't done much harm, but the whole of Hogwarts will panic if this lets out. We'd better hide this painting, or get Headmistress Danuliete to get rid of it." Rowane finished of uncertainly.
She looked around, no-one was up yet, noone needed to know. She took the girl's hand and began to walk. "I think we'd better go to the Headmistress now? I don't want anyone to know. By the way, my name's Rowane, and you?" Rowane felt that whoever had done this had planned for her to be frightened. She felt anger coursing through her, that she had fallen for it. But she was going to make sure no-one else did. She gave the girl a reassuring smile and continued walking.
~~~

Anna "I'm Anna." she walked as well, trying to keep up. "I'm scared of the Headmistress. And what do we say? 'Oh, hi, headmistress. Would you mind coming up to our commom room? A painting's been slashed to bits, and we're scared.'" She paused to take a breath. "Oh! Wait!" she ran back, and draped her dressing gown over the painting's frame. "There."

~~~
Rowane Whist Rowane gave the girl another smile, "Good thinking, who knows what the others might have thought if they had seen that painting! As for the headmistress, well, I've seen Lady Ghast before, but Professor Danuliete..." Rowane trailed off, she had never encountered the new headmistress upfront! "We'll just have to see." Rowane sighed and picked up the pace to the Great Hall.
