The Hogwarts Express

Teacher Interviews

Professor Nikolas Kareem
Nikolas Kareem is one of the newest members of the Hogwarts staff. Once you see him, no doubt you'll remember his worried expression and timid nature. But is this shy teacher really as scared he seems to be?

YES!

After an interview with this reclusive professor we've found out some rather surprising things about him, and other facts that don't seem to surprising at all.

Transfiguration has always come easy for Professor Kareem. Even as a young kid he was able to do some complicated spells-on his siblings.

"... I used to transfigure my brothers into various animals in my youth..."

From what this reporter saw, it didn't seem like the professor could ever do anything as extreme and bold as that, even as a child. But perhaps life was different before a mysterious incident took place at Durmstrang Institute. Though exact information wasn't given, it seems like something awful happened to him during his teachings there. He still likes Durmstrang (only because he's been there longer) but Professor Kareem is starting to warm up to Hogwarts.

"There are entirely too many first years..."

Okay, so he's not a big fan of the new kids, but he IS a professor. Shouldn't he have a little more confidence? His first lesson started out someone rocky but then it soon got better. As it turns out, Professor Kareem isn't a horrible teacher, but actually a somewhat good one. But thats not to say hes perfect. He's got stuff to work on, as most professors do. Even though he's not to thrilled about the number of students, that doesn't seem to affect his classes... too much.

But don't worry... he's not planning on becoming Headmaster anytime soon. Which is good, he might not be up to the challenge of controlling an entire school. He still needs to work on controlling his class. He's quite content as a simple professor thank you very much.

Professor Kareem still isn't too confident about his abilities though, thinking that once the Headmistress finds someone else, he's out. He isn't even excited about teaching here! Whether he'll survive the first year is another mystery.

Professor Amanda Vining
N: Is it boring to be a teacher than a student?
V: It's not exactly boring being a professor, just different. I mean, you can't go out onto the Quidditch pitch and fly whenever you feel like it or go into a common room and talk to your friends. Yes, it is boring in a way. I haven't really been a teacher long enough to confirm that, though. Sorry...

N: Do you get any privileges that you couldn't have last year?
V: Do I get any privileges that I wasn't able to have last year? Yes. I now have access to any room in Hogwarts, including all four of the common rooms. I'm also able to use the Faculty Lounge which is quite nice. I'm able to take away as many points as I like, rather than the maximum of fifty that I was able to deduct last year as Head Girl. I can also give out detentions now.

N: How is being a teacher the same or different than being a student at Hogwarts?
V: Being a teacher is very different than being a student and it's also quite similar. As I mentioned a few minutes ago, i'm not able to relax in a common room and simply speak to my friends but i'm still allowed to talk to them in other places. Is this making any sense?

N: Do you still wish you were a student rather than a teacher?
V: To be completely honest, yes, I do wish that I was still a student. All I ever wanted when I was attending school here was to be a professor. Now I realize that I wasted years of being able to have fun with my peers and instead stayed in a corner the whole time. Ever since Gene, Katana, Hybrid and the rest left in my third year I began to lose my social life. Do you see where I'm going? Brooke offered me friendship more than once afterwards and I threw her offer out without considering it. If I was given the chance to rewind and go back to my years as a student, I would accept. So, yes, I do want to be a student again. I want my Quidditch team back...

N: Does it feel weird being called Professor Vining?
V: Professor Vining sounds horrible! The two really don't go together. It's definetly weird. I'm not used to it yet, either. People have called me by 'Professor Vining' and at times I won't respond. I hate my new title.

Professor Ariella Agglebash
N: Is it boring to be a teacher than a student?
A: It's not really *boring* to be a teacher, but I have to admit I would much rather be back in fifth or sixth year. Those were the days...

N: Do you get any privileges that you couldn't have last year?
A: Of course I get more privileges, I get to go into the Faculty Lounge. I get to get other students in trouble, what more is there to love?

N: How is being a teacher the same or different than being a student at Hogwarts?
A: Being a teacher is nothing like being a student, there are more responsibilities, more challenges. Actually it is kinda like being a student because I have to learn how to teach... I guess.

N: Do you still wish you were a student rather than a teacher?
A: I wish more than anything I were a student again. I miss it very much. But at least I still get to stay at Hogwarts.

N: Does it feel weird being called Professor Agglebash?
A: I just think that Professor Agglebash sounds so dumb... maybe it's just me, it is soooo weird! I have just been always used to being called Ariella and now I actually have status. It is very different.
