Other Wizarding Schools

Beauxbatons Academy
Founded: 679 AD
Founder(s): Isabella Beauxbatons
Details: A French school of witchcraft and wizardry. The school is Unplottable, so its exact location is unknown. It is thought to be somewhere in the south of the country, though. Calanthas Castle of Magic
Founded: 1075
Founder(s): Patrick and Jessica Calantha

Currently run by Headmaster Henry Adriel and Deputy Headmistress Raven Zephan, Calanthas is for witches and wizards. A student is able to attend at age eight and graduates at age eighteen, attending school for ten years. Calanthas studies the basic subjects plus others. You must take all of the subjects in your first, second, third, fourth, and fifth year. You are then required to choose half of the subjects to take for your sixth, seventh, and eighth years. Then for your ninth and tenth years you choose one subject to study.

Goldstays Academy Encompassing the Curriculum for Witches
Founded: 1901
Founder(s): Salvador Stays
Details: Goldstays is not a fee-paying school, despite being private. Students are accepted into it according to natural ability in certain areas of magic. Each pupil is expected to pick a subject to specialise in, then undergoes vigorous training in this subject while at school. Salvador Stays is still living, though he has turned the managing of the school over to his niece, Sandy Stays. Silverstays maintains close relations with its sister school, SILVERSTAYS, run by Sierra Stays, Salvador's brother.

It is located in the western United States, presumably California.

Granenfells Manor, University of Magic
Founded: 1222
Founder(s): Graeme Murdoch & Gillian Grimblewoa
Details: Granenfells is a non fee paying University, which is very rare for a school of it's standard. It's located in the town of Tashynott-On-Green in the Scottish Highlands and offers several degrees in special subjects. It's main body of pupils is made up from graduates of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is currently run by Headmistress Isabella Zagavi and Madame Evanay Romano of Lithuania. Students can study one, two, three or four year courses, though only two students have ever passed a four year course.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry
Founded: Around a thousand years ago: date unknown
Founder(s): Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin
Details: Thought to be situated somewhere in Scotland, this school educates young wizards and wizards primarily from the British Isles, but also from as far afield as America. Students are separated into four houses by the 'Sorting Hat' on their first day at the school and the house which they are placed into is thought to best represent their personality. For more information, see Hogwarts, a History.

Meriwends Private School of Charms and Transfiguration
Founded: 1312/1506
Founder(s): Rubill Meriwends / Korem Meriwends
Details: Meriwends is a private school, though not fee paying. Only those witches and wizards who show extreme abilities in the areas of Charms and Transfiguration are accepted. The school has a busy schedule, allowing only one hour free time each day, excluding break and lunch. Weekends are occupied with sports such as chess and gobstones. Not physical contact games are allowed. Meriwends burnt down in the late 1400's, but was rebuilt in 1506 by Rubill Meriwends's great, great nephew Korem Meriwends. It is located in a rural and deserted part of Mozambique, though no Muggles could ever see it.

Natasha Anicha's University of Future Aurors
Founded: 654 AD
Founder(s): Natasha Anicha I
Details: A school dedicated to teaching students how to be Aurors from the age of eleven, this school has won the Golden Wand award for best preparation courses for both young witches and wizards an astounding five times. With the guarantee that every student that graduates will become an Auror, they are highly recommended to those families who have planned out their child's future.

Not many students make it to their eighth year and those that do hardly ever finish. The average number of Aurors who graduate a year is five to ten. However for those that do make it to that honourable place, a Gringotts account is set up for them (as the final years of preparation costs up to 1500 galleons a year), and their applications to the Dark Force Defence League are then sent in. This university resides at the top of Mount Everest (making it nearly impossible for Muggles to reach) and has a few illusion spells on it, making it invisible to both Muggles and unwelcome wizards alike.

Ordellmires Institute of Sorcery
Founded: 106 AD
Founder(s):
Details: This school, located in the Carpathian Mountains, Romania, accepts all pupils that show the slightest hint of magic, though it's tough courses encourage a high drop out rate. It is one of the better rated east European schools, with a impressive percentage of students that go on to attend prestigious universities. It offers several excellent courses in understanding Dark magic in order to defend against it. Both wizards and witches are accepted, and claims that wizards are more encouraged have always been denied.

Silverstays Academy Encompassing the Curriculum for Witches
Founded: 1901
Founder(s): Sierra Stays
Details: Silverstays is not a fee-paying school, despite being private. Students are accepted into it according to natural ability in certain areas of magic. Each pupil is expected to pick a subject to specialise in, then undergoes vigorous training in this subject while at school. Sierra Stays is still living, though she has turned the managing of the school over to her oldest daughter, Sarah Stays. Silverstays maintains close relations with its sister school, GOLDSTAYS, run by Sierra's youngest daughter Sandy.

It is also thought to be located in California like its sister school.

Tokendoffs
Founded: 1903
Founder(s): Lady Fay Tokendoffs
Details: This school teaches only young witches. It is not nearly as old as some of the other schools in the world, and its teachers aren't as good. The reason why it is not as recommended as other schools is because it is so far out in the middle of nowhere. It's on a very deserted island, and few students attend.

Wrightwards Academy for the Education of Young Warlocks
Founded: 1798
Founder(s): Alexander Wrightward
Details: A fee-paying school for wizards. There has never been a witch studying at Wrightwards, and any propositions to allow them to do so have always been turned down. Not everyone at the school has hundreds of Galleons lurking in their Gringotts account, though, as several scholarships are available to this prestigious school, which is located on an island off the coast of Canada.
